The 1990's

The 90's can be characterized as a decade in which Mansfield rose up to become one of the three elite teams in the Hockomock League. In 1992 they set the record for most wins in the 74 year history of the team. The 1992 team also won the first Superbowl for Mansfield and set the School record for most points in a season with 403. This team featured one of the best running backs in the school's history, Omari Walker. In just 20 games wearing the Hornet uniform Walker scored 258 points and rushed for more than 2000 yards. This feat might not sound impressive, but given Coach Redding's tendency to spread the offensive rushing load between several running backs this accomplishment is pretty incredible.

Two years later Mansfield would win a 3rd Hockomock Championship and second superbowl behind the great passing and rushing attack of QB Fred Vallett, one of the greatest quarterbacks the Hornets have ever had. In 1996 Mansfield set another record for most wins in a season with 12 as they went on to win a 4th Hockomock Championship and 3rd superbowl under coach Redding. This team was led by the great passing attack of Matt McLaughlin, Mansfield's single season TD pass leader and the strong running of Joe Todd and Eric Lundell. The rest of the decade saw a decline in the 3-time superbowl champions performance. From 1997-1999 Coach Redding suffered his worst three year period with a record of 14-16-1. The ending to the decade was salvaged by an upset win over Foxboro in 1999, the last game of the decade which set the tone for the next century of Hornet football. For the decade of the 90's Mansfield was an impressive 70-35-1 (.665), their best winning percentage in any decade through the 1990's.
